An exhibition of India’s missile capability, organized in Kolkata, has attracted scores of people. India’s missile capabilities have developed rapidly in last few years by holding the hand of technology in the strategic sector. The Missile Park located in the Science City here has an exhibition of BrahMos, Prithvi and four other missiles with the world’s fastest strike speed. An official said that this exhibition has been set up to provide information to the people of the metropolis about the continuous increase in the country’s strategic strength, reported HS.

The missile park has been jointly developed by Millimeter-Wave Semiconductor Devices and Systems (CMSDS), a Kolkata unit of DRDO, a part of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) for visitors to see and understand.

A statue of India’s Missile Man, former President APJ Abdul Kalam has been installed in the park. As a visitor stand in front of the statue, an audio commentary automatically begins giving an overview of the country’s missile program.

Anurag Kumar, Director, Science City, Kolkata said, What people usually watch on their TVs during the Republic Day Parade can now be seen live at Science City. We have set up a Missile Park with life size replicas of missiles to enthuse the visitors about the great progress made by India in the field of missile technology. We hope that the Missile Park will be able to encourage the youth to take up science and technology as their career. Life-size models of six major missiles of India namely BrahMos, Prithvi, Mission Shakti, Akash, Astra and Nag are displayed here.’

CMSDS Director Madhumita Chakraborty said, it is a matter of pride that India has indigenously developed the technology required for navigation control, guidance and advanced materials for missiles. India’s fleet has all types of missiles and is thus ready to counter any external threat. Due to the foresight of our leaders and the hard work of our scientists at DRDO, India is a country to be reckoned with in all advanced areas of missile technology.

India’s missile development program was initiated by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in the 1960s.
