Karnataka has recorded a voter turnout of around 73 percent in the assembly elections held yesterday. The final numbers are expected to increase as the current figures do not include postal ballots.

The state has surpassed its record of voter turnout of 72.44 percent in the previous assembly polls held in 2018. While Chikkaballapur district recorded the highest voter turnout of around 86 percent, the capital city of Bengaluru recorded an average of 55 percent. However, the Bengaluru Rural district registered a voter turnout of over 83 per cent.

Amongst the districts which recorded the turnout of over 80 percent include Chamrajnagar, Chitradurga, Hassan, Haveri, Kolar, Mandya, Ramanagaram and Tumkur.

Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje, in a press conference in Bengaluru, thanked the voters for actively participating in the elections and hoped that Bengaluru voters would also show the same enthusiasm in the upcoming polls. She said exit polls would prove wrong as the feedback from the party workers at the booth level indicate that the BJP would get 120-125 seats.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also thanked the people of Karnataka for coming out in large numbers to vote. In a tweet, he also thanked the party workers for their participation in the campaigning for the party.
